How To Style Ripped Jeans – Ripped Jeans Series (Part 2)

Photographs by Dayris Mtz

It’s been a long time since the las time I published an outfit post, but I decided today was the perfect day to do it. You might remember my “Ripped Jean Series” from a few weeks ago, this post is the second part of those series, but I decided to give it a little twist than how the post had been originally planned. Why not turn it into a “How to” post?, since it seems like getting a few tips is always in order.

I think that ripped jeans are very underrated, some people think that they make you look “messy” but in the wrong way, which I think it’s complete nonsense! The thing about fashion is that you can take pretty much any piece that you like and make it your own, and in a lot of occasions, you can dress the same piece up or down. Let’s be real, I’m not trying to tell you to wear ripped jeans to a super important and formal occasion, but you can totally dress it up to attend a party or to get that model off duty look.

Dress Them Up

What I’m wearing in this pictures is my go-to everyday look, but I could easily dress it up by switching the sneakers for a cute pair of ankle boots or pumps and the pink shirt for a blazer and adding a clutch… et voila! In my opinion, jeans in general, are possibly one of the most versatile pieces out there, but ripped jeans are a whole new statement piece that everybody can pull off!

Embrace It

Don’t, and I repeat, DON’T be intimidated by the jeans! Sometimes the holes are so big that you just start overthinking a lot “What will I pair these with?”, “They’re too bold for me”. Don’t think too much! They key to master ripped jeans is to go for it. Once you have a pair that fits you well, you will not be able to stop wearing them.

Day to Night

When you’re having the craziest and busiest day, think about ripped jeans. You can style them to achieve a super casual & comfy look and in the night all you have to do is change the shoes, layer some pieces (like a cardigan, blazer or a belt) and touch up your makeup for a perfect day to night look.

Think in Colors

I know in this post I’m only featuring denim ripped jeans, but there are so many other options. I would highly recommend getting a pair of plain black ripped jeans, they work a lot better when you want to use them for formal occasions and look a little bit more put together.

Get Your Confident On

Like Demi Lovato says, what’s wrong with being confident? If you like your outfit, there’s no reason why you should be feeling insecure about yourself. Just get out there and rock on.

I agree that the whole thing about ripped jeans being messy or looking trashy is crazy. Of course there are certain instances where you wouldn’t want to wear them (like a job interview) but most people would have common sense about that-haha. I love the look, so cute!

I couldn’t agree more with you, Ana! Ripped jeans can be worn for so many occasions and if you dress them up a bit, they can make a killer outfit! I like your tips on how to style them and especially the confident part. We really just need to embrace them and be confident in them! So many girls don’t wear them because they think this type of jeans makes them look fat… like seriously?!

Cute pictures! And I love the pink boyfriend shirt too! I looove the look of ripped jeans (especially because you CAN dress them up / down), but I have yet to buy a pair. At first I wasn’t sure about getting ones that had GIANT holes in them, but then I would see other girls wearing them and looking really good so now I’m like “Oh I can wear these!” I just have yet to find the right pair hah.

I love the look of ripped jeans, but every time I wear them someone always tells me I look sloppy and not put together enough. I ended up getting rid of every pair because it wasn’t worth explaining that actually they are a fashion statement and pretty popular these days. – Katy
